June 6, 1944: The Light of Dawn
This is the story of the Normandy landings, Operation Overlord, the biggest military operation in history. Expecting an invasion somewhere on Europe's west coast, Hitler had ordered the construction of a defensive wall from Norway to the Spanish border. The Allies began planning on a colossal scale in terms of manpower and materials. All winter long, tens of thousands of American troops poured into England to join their British brothers-in-arms in training for D-Day. By the beginning of June, the stage was set for the most important and critical seaborne invasion of all time.
